Institutional investors just sold an overall total of $952 billion in Bitcoin and crypto assets in only one week, according to a new update from Coinshares. This marks the first outflows in four weeks for digital asset investment products. Ethereum led the outflows with $555 million withdrawn. Bitcoin followed with $460 million in outflows. Solana saw inflows of $48.5 million, while XRP gained $62.9 million. The US drove most of the negative flow. Outflows there reached $990 million. Canada offset some with $46.2 million in inflows. Germany added $15.6 million. Assets under management now stand at $46.7 billion, below below last year’s $48.7 billion. Year-to-date inflows for Bitcoin hit $27.2 billion. That’s down from $41.6 billion in 2024. Ethereum’s year-to-date inflows are $12.7 billion, up from $5.3 billion last year. The crypto asset management giant Grayscale is expecting a 1,000x jump in one crypto subsector amid “structural shifts in digital asset investing.” In a new research report, Grayscale targets tokenized assets, or the practice of placing real-world assets like equities, real estate, or commodities on the blockchain for more accessible and efficient trading. Ripple Labs is doubling down on its presence in Japan, drawing on longstanding relationships with the countrys traditional financial institutions. The strategy is aimed at increasing adoption and interest in the XRP Ledger (XRPL). This week, Asia Web3 Alliance Japan and Web3 Salon launched the Japan Financial Infrastructure Innovation Program. The initiative is designed to support Japanese startups developing next-generation, compliant digital financial solutions on the XRP Ledger. While Ripple touts institutional adoption, the underlying usage of the XRPL tells a conflicting story of contraction. According to data from DefiLlama, the Total Value Locked (TVL) on the XRPL has plummeted in recent months. The TVL has fallen from a July high of $120 million to roughly $62 million as of press time. This nearly 50% drawdown suggests that capital is exiting the networks DeFi protocols even as corporate partnerships expand. Meanwhile, the broader crypto market downturn likely contributed to the drawdown, as Bitcoin has fallen 30% from its October high of more than $126,000. Furthermore, the push into asset tokenization faces stiff competition. According to Rwa.xyz, XRPL currently ranks ninth globally in tokenized assets, with approximately $213 million in assets. While substantial, this lags significantly behind networks like Ethereum and newer competitors that have captured the lions share of the RWA market. Considering this, the JFIIP program is more than a startup accelerator.
