Galaxy Research Report: It's unlikely that this arrest of Telegram CEO will be the last
BlockBeats reports that on August 27, Galaxy Research stated in a report that Pavel Durov, CEO of Telegram, was detained in France. This is the first major arrest of an executive from a well-known communication or social media company for failing to adequately regulate its platform and it may not be the last.
The report points out that the French government has been hostile towards encryption technology and encrypted communications, and Durov's detention over the weekend is no exception. Galaxy suggests that Telegram and Durov might resist deletion or information requests from European governments or more specifically, from the French government. Telegram is closely related to The Open Network (TON) blockchain which was initially an internal project on the platform but later taken over by independent developers.
Alex Thorn, head of corporate research at Galaxy wrote: "It's unclear whether charges against Pavel involve TON or integration between Telegram and TON." (CoinDesk)
