German Business Sentiment Holds Steady in January
According to a recent survey released today, business confidence in Germany showed no change from the previous month as the new year began. The Ifo Institute reported that its business climate index stayed at 87.6 in January, mirroring December's figure. This result fell short of analysts' expectations, who had anticipated a modest increase to 88.2, based on a Reuters poll.
Clemens Fuest, President of the Ifo Institute, commented, "Germany's economy is entering the year lacking momentum." The survey indicated a minor improvement in how companies view their current situation, with that measure inching up to 85.7 from 85.6 in December. However, business expectations for the coming months dipped slightly, declining to 89.5 from the previous 89.7.
