US Stock Futures Decline as Wall Street Processes Recent Losses

On Thursday, futures for US stocks slipped as investors continued to react to another negative session for the S&P 500.

  • S&P 500 futures edged down by approximately 0.1%.
  • Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 0.2%.
  • Dow Jones Industrial Average futures fell by about 100 points, or 0.2%.

After-Hours Market Movers

Corporate earnings continued to influence trading after the bell. Apple saw its stock climb roughly 1% following better-than-expected results for its fiscal first quarter, driven by robust iPhone sales. Meanwhile, Sandisk shares soared 11% after the company issued optimistic guidance for the future.

Microsoft Leads Tech Selloff

Microsoft shares plunged nearly 10%, marking their largest single-day drop since March 2020. This decline weighed heavily on both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq, as investors reacted to signs of slowing growth in the company’s cloud division. The disappointing results triggered broader losses among software stocks, with market participants evaluating the balance between artificial intelligence investments and the significant costs required to achieve growth.

Weekly Performance Remains Positive

Despite recent turbulence, major indices are still up for the week. Both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq have gained close to 0.8% so far, while the Dow is on track to finish the week down about 0.1%.

Focus on Federal Reserve Policy

Investors are also analyzing the Federal Reserve’s latest policy decision, which kept interest rates unchanged for the first time in 2026. Traders are still anticipating two quarter-point rate cuts before year-end.

Attention remains on the central bank’s leadership, as any potential move toward easing is expected to be postponed until after Chair Jerome Powell’s term ends in May. This has heightened interest in former President Trump’s forthcoming pick to lead the Fed.

Upcoming Earnings Reports

With many major tech companies having already reported, the spotlight now shifts to the energy sector. Exxon and Chevron are scheduled to announce their results before the market opens on Friday. Additionally, American Express and Verizon will round out a busy week of earnings releases.
