French household spending on goods is projected to decline once more in December 2025, falling by 0.6% following a previous drop of 0.3%.
Household Goods Spending Trends in December 2025
During December 2025, households reduced their spending on goods for the second consecutive month, with a 0.6% decrease in volume following a 0.3% drop in November. Purchases of manufactured products experienced a notable decline, falling by 1.0% after a modest 0.5% increase the previous month. Food-related expenditures continued their downward trend, slipping by 0.9% after a slight 0.1% decrease. In contrast, energy consumption saw a recovery, rising by 0.8% after a significant 2.0% fall.
Looking at the entire fourth quarter of 2025, overall household consumption of goods picked up pace, growing by 0.4% compared to a 0.1% increase in the third quarter. Spending on manufactured goods rebounded, energy consumption growth slowed a bit, and food consumption remained steady.
