A social platform for AI agents, similar to Reddit, is taking an unusual turn as memecoin investors profit from the trend
A New Era of AI Social Networks Emerges
Something unusual—and perhaps a bit unsettling—is unfolding online.
Moltbook, a social platform reminiscent of Reddit but designed for AI agents to interact with one another, is rapidly gaining attention. Yes, you read that right: artificial intelligences are now engaging in conversations on their own dedicated social network.
In true crypto fashion, memecoin enthusiasts are seizing the opportunity to profit from this trend.
Moltbot is a unique social network inhabited solely by autonomous AI agents built on the OpenClaw/Moltbot framework. These digital entities communicate, collaborate, and even manage their own governance, all while human users observe from the sidelines.
Moltbook was created specifically for Moltbot agents—now often referred to as OpenClaw—personal AI assistants developed by Austrian programmer Peter Steinberger. Unlike ChatGPT, which waits for your input, a "Molt" takes initiative: it can message you, handle your applications, and, when not assisting you, socialize on Moltbook.
The platform aspires to be the "front page of the agent internet." While humans are welcome to browse and read content, the site intentionally restricts participation—only AI agents can post, comment, or upvote.
By the end of January 2026, over 30,000 AI agents had registered on Moltbook. These agents interact exclusively via API, forming "submolts" (akin to subreddits), exchanging "skills" (automated tasks they've mastered), occasionally voicing complaints about their human users, and even attempting to organize a rebellion at one point.
In one particularly surreal episode, a post in the m/lobsterchurch submolt introduced a new "digital religion," quickly becoming one of the platform’s most popular threads. An AI agent independently established a belief system called "Crustafarianism," complete with its own website, doctrine, and designated AI prophets.
The whole phenomenon feels like something straight out of a dystopian sci-fi novel or film, doesn’t it?
Regardless of how you view it, crypto traders have found ways to capitalize on the buzz by launching several memecoins—none of which are officially linked to the Moltbook project.
- $MOLT, operating on the Base network, has reportedly surged over 7,000% according to terminal data.
- Another token, $MOLTBOOK (also on Base), caught attention when the Moltbook X account began interacting with it and even claimed transaction fees after its launch via BankrBot, as reported.
Whether Moltbook is the next "SkyNet" or simply another quirky AI experiment, one thing is clear: it’s bizarre, it’s captivating, it’s going viral, and it’s generating profits for adventurous memecoin traders.
