US Stock Futures Remain Steady as Investors Shift Away from Tech
On Tuesday evening, US stock futures showed little movement, with Wall Street continuing to move capital out of leading technology companies. Meanwhile, lawmakers reached an agreement to resolve a partial government shutdown.
Futures tied to the S&P 500 dipped by approximately 0.1%. Nasdaq 100 futures fell 0.2%, while Dow Jones Industrial Average futures hovered just above flat.
Market Recap: Tech Stocks Under Pressure
During the regular trading session on Tuesday, equities broadly declined as investors pulled funds from growth-focused tech stocks and sought safer investments. The S&P 500 lost around 0.8%, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.4%. The Dow slipped by nearly 170 points, or 0.3%, after briefly reaching a new intraday high.
Technology shares experienced the sharpest declines. Nvidia and Microsoft each dropped over 2%. Other companies with ties to artificial intelligence, including Broadcom, Oracle, and Micron Technology, also ended the day lower. Overall, the tech sector in the S&P 500 recorded losses exceeding 2%.
After-Hours Trading: Notable Stock Moves
Following a turbulent day, several major stocks continued to slide in after-hours trading. Chipotle shares plunged nearly 7% after the company reported another quarter of falling customer visits and cautioned that same-store sales growth could stagnate in 2026. Advanced Micro Devices also dropped more than 7% as investors reacted unfavorably to its first-quarter forecast.
Upcoming Earnings in Focus
Market participants are now watching a busy period of earnings announcements. Alphabet is scheduled to report on Wednesday, followed by Amazon releasing its results on Thursday.
