This week’s release of January inflation statistics is set to clarify whether the Reserve Bank’s recent decision to raise the cash rate was an isolated event or the beginning of a series of increases. On Wednesday, the latest inflation numbers will be published—the first since the Reserve Bank lifted interest rates to 3.85% in early February.
According to economists at the Commonwealth Bank, the headline inflation rate is anticipated to ease slightly to 3.7% in the upcoming report. Meanwhile, the trimmed mean inflation—which excludes the most volatile price changes—is projected to hold steady at 3.3%. Both indicators remain closely watched by policymakers and analysts.
