Japan's administration selects scholars Asada and Sato to join the BOJ board
Japan Nominates New Academics to Bank of Japan Board
On Wednesday, the Japanese government put forward Toichiro Asada and Ayano Sato, both respected academics, as candidates for the Bank of Japan’s nine-member policy board, according to a document submitted to parliament. These nominations are viewed as an indicator of the Takaichi administration’s approach to monetary policy.
Toichiro Asada, professor emeritus at Chuo University, is set to succeed economist Asahi Noguchi, whose term concludes on March 31. Noguchi, previously regarded as dovish, had supported the central bank’s last two interest rate increases during his tenure. Meanwhile, Ayano Sato, a professor at Aoyama Gakuin University, has been chosen to take over from Junko Nakagawa, whose term will end in June.
