Middle Eastern conflict tests India as natural gas supply cuts severely impact late-night electricity
Show original
Golden Ten Data reported on March 6 that due to Middle East conflicts reducing natural gas supplies, India will face unbearably hot nights this summer. The shortage of natural gas supply may cut power generation from this crucial energy source, which is mainly used for nighttime household cooling. Although natural gas power generation accounts for only a small portion of India's total electricity supply, it plays a vital role in meeting electricity demand during hot summer nights when solar energy cannot be utilized. In the past, when high temperatures drove up consumption, the government has taken emergency measures to ensure that utility companies' gas and coal power plants operate at full capacity. This turmoil comes at a time when India is experiencing above-normal temperatures, which will put additional pressure on the power grid. Earlier this month, the India Meteorological Department stated that during the three months ending May 31, the likelihood of heatwave days in many parts of the country has increased.
