Golden Ten Data reported on March 11 that, facing unprecedented volatility in the global fuel market, some airlines have begun to increase fuel surcharges, while others have announced plans to raise ticket prices. With the slow recovery of Middle Eastern routes, direct flights between China and Europe have become extremely difficult to book, and ticket prices have soared. Domestic airlines adjust fuel surcharges for domestic routes on a monthly basis, using the comprehensive procurement cost of domestic aviation kerosene as the benchmark. When the price is below 5,000 yuan/ton, the surcharge is suspended; when it exceeds 5,000 yuan/ton, the surcharge is imposed. Airlines absorb 20% of the excess over the benchmark, while passengers bear 80%. The last adjustment to domestic route fuel surcharges was on January 5 this year, when routes of 800 kilometers (inclusive) or less were charged a fuel fee of 10 yuan, and routes over 800 kilometers were charged 20 yuan, both down by 10 yuan and 20 yuan respectively compared to the previous month. The next price adjustment window will arrive on April 5. Currently, the domestic civil aviation market is in the traditional off-season after the Spring Festival, making it difficult to raise ticket prices. However, on international routes departing from China, direct flights between China and Europe have seen ticket prices soar due to setbacks on Middle Eastern routes.
