Institution: Japan's debt-to-GDP ratio may drop to 190% in the coming years

Golden Ten Data reported on March 18 that, according to the funds statistics released by the Bank of Japan on Wednesday, as of the end of December last year, the balance of Japan's government outstanding debt decreased by 3.8% year-on-year. Capital Economics economist Marcel Thieliant expects that the official national accounts data will show a similar magnitude of decline, which means Japan's debt-to-GDP ratio may drop from 222% in 2024 to 204%. If the fiscal deficit remains low and the economy continues to grow, the debt-to-GDP ratio should fall to around 190% in the coming years, far below the International Monetary Fund's forecast of 220%.
