Yuan strengthens versus US dollar amid optimism over reduced Iran war tensions
Yuan Gains Ground Amid Hopes for Middle East Peace
The Chinese yuan appreciated against the US dollar on Wednesday, following a stronger daily reference rate set by the central bank. This movement came as the US dollar remained soft, influenced by optimism surrounding a potential ceasefire in the Middle East.
During early trading, the yuan climbed to 6.8823 per US dollar and was up 0.01% at 6.8912 by 0300 GMT. In offshore markets, the yuan hovered around 6.8943 per dollar, showing little change during Asian trading hours.
Market sentiment was cautiously hopeful that a ceasefire in the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran could be reached, which might reopen the Strait of Hormuz for oil shipments. On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump indicated that progress was being made towards easing tensions in the region.
