Gold: Commerzbank raises year-end forecasts even after significant decline
Commerzbank Raises Gold Price Outlook
Thu Lan Nguyen from Commerzbank has updated the bank’s gold price projections, now anticipating gold to reach $5,000 per ounce by the end of 2026 and $5,200 in the following year, even after a recent 15% decline in prices. The bank’s outlook is shaped by expectations that the conflict involving Iran will conclude by spring, US interest rate hike forecasts will be revised, the Federal Reserve will implement a total of 75 basis points in rate cuts, and US real yields will decline—factors that should continue to support gold’s reputation as a safe-haven asset.
Long-Term Safe-Haven Appeal Remains Strong
“We have updated our gold price outlook to reflect the latest market shifts,” the bank stated.
“It may seem unexpected, but we have increased our year-end and next year’s gold price targets—from $4,900 to $5,000 per troy ounce for this year, and from $4,800 to $5,200 per troy ounce for next year.”
“This indicates our belief that the recent notable price correction is unlikely to persist.”
“We also anticipate that the US Federal Reserve will resume cutting interest rates at the end of this year, with a total reduction of 75 basis points expected by mid-next year.”
“Over the longer term, US real interest rates are projected to decrease, making gold a more attractive holding by lowering its opportunity cost.”
