Gold Prices Climb Following US-Iran Ceasefire Announcement

During the early hours of Wednesday's Asian trading session, the value of gold (XAU/USD) surged to nearly $4,775. This uptick was driven by renewed investor interest after US President Donald Trump decided to halt military action against Iran for a two-week period.

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, stating that he would pause the strikes for two weeks. The decision was influenced by Pakistan, which has been acting as a mediator between the United States and Iran. Pakistan requested that Trump extend the ceasefire and postpone the deadline he had set for Iran to lift its blockade on Gulf oil shipments.

The escalation of tensions with Iran has led to a sharp increase in oil prices, fueling worries about supply disruptions. Rising energy costs contribute to higher inflation, which limits central banks' ability to lower interest rates. Although gold is considered a safe haven during times of geopolitical turmoil, it does not generate interest income, making it less appealing when rates are elevated.

Market participants are also awaiting the release of the Federal Reserve's March meeting minutes, scheduled for Wednesday, to gain further insight into monetary policy direction.
