Tether announced the freezing of over $344 million in USDT following direct cooperation with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and US security authorities.
The measure targeted two digital wallet addresses identified as being involved in illegal activities, preventing the funds from being transferred or used.
According to the company, the action was based on information provided by various American agencies, which linked the wallets to sanctions evasion schemes and criminal operations. As soon as the data was validated, the addresses were immediately blocked.
Tether has reinforced that it maintains a strict policy against the misuse of its cryptocurrencies and that it regularly monitors the OFAC's list of Specially Designated Nationals. This monitoring allows the company to act quickly when it identifies suspicious activity.
“USDT is not a safe haven for illicit activities. When we identify credible links to sanctioned entities or criminal networks, we act immediately and decisively,” stated CEO Paolo Ardoino.
The figures released demonstrate the scale of the company's work alongside global authorities. Currently, Tether collaborates with more than 340 law enforcement agencies in 65 countries, participating in over 2.300 investigations worldwide.
Of that total, approximately 1.200 cases involve U.S. agencies. The total value of assets frozen by the company already exceeds US$4,4 billion, with more than US$2,1 billion directly related to actions taken by U.S. authorities.
Furthermore, the U.S. Department of Justice has already highlighted Tether's collaboration in previous operations that resulted in the seizure of approximately $61 million and $225 million in different investigations.
These cases were linked to scams known as "pig slaughter," in which victims are persuaded over weeks or months to invest in fake platforms, resulting in significant losses before the scam is discovered.
