Sports-focused blockchain platform Chiliz has announced plans to migrate more than 70 of its fan tokens to the Solana and Base networks. This move will expand the platform’s reach to a broader audience while advancing its vision for multi-chain deployment. By creating exclusive digital assets for clubs across football, basketball, and other sports, Chiliz continues to cement its influence in the global sports industry.

Omnichain strategy opens new chapter
Last year, Chiliz transitioned to its own layer-1 mainnet, centralizing the buying, selling, and transfer of its fan tokens. Now, the company has revealed in an official statement that it is launching an omnichain transition, enabling fan tokens to become accessible not only on Solana but also on Coinbase’s Base network.
Chiliz confirmed it will adopt the OFT (Omnichain Fungible Token) standard to facilitate this expansion. As a result, the total supply of each fan token will remain unified across all supported chains, eliminating issues like wrapped intermediary tokens or fragmented liquidity.
With the OFT standard, fan tokens will exist with a single, unified supply on every supported network, removing the need for wrapped assets and preventing liquidity from being split across chains, according to the company.
Diversified fan token portfolio
Fan tokens generally emerge through partnerships with football clubs and provide supporters with a sense of digital community membership. Holders can gain voting rights for minor club decisions or access to special rewards. The Chiliz roster includes tokens for leading European football clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Manchester City, and Juventus, bringing fan engagement into the digital era and creating innovative revenue streams for teams.
Chiliz is also expanding beyond football, seeking to digitize the fan experience across other sports. The tokens are not just for stadium-goers; they target a global fan base regardless of geographic boundaries.
Major expansion via Solana and Base
Chiliz’s latest strategy aims to boost transaction volumes ahead of this summer’s FIFA World Cup. The company is targeting a broader, worldwide user base and wants its fan tokens to become even more active across new blockchain networks.
Fan tokens representing national teams like Argentina and Portugal are already available on the platform. The company has confirmed that other countries’ tokens will join the line-up in June. The World Cup season is expected to bring significant surges in trading activity for these assets.
Based in Malta, Chiliz is a pioneering blockchain company behind the fan token concept. By merging sports and blockchain technology, the firm has drawn a substantial community in the global crypto ecosystem.
