Bitwise CEO: DeFi will not disappear, not all treasuries are equally reliable
Foresight News reported that Bitwise co-founder and CEO Hunter Horsley, when asked about the "recent negative sentiment in the DeFi sector" at the Miami Consensus 2026 conference, stated, "I believe DeFi is still very much alive." He pointed out that the recent incidents were operational security issues, not smart contracts being hacked. He also noted that the crypto industry is rapidly entering the mainstream, and both DeFi and on-chain treasuries need to respond to this moment; treasuries have only existed for two years, and "not all treasuries are equally reliable, so early entrants need to do more research." eToro co-founder and CEO Yoni Assia also stated that DeFi "is the inevitable future."
During the roundtable discussion, several guests predicted DeFi TVL for the next five years: eToro CEO Yoni Assia forecasted $5 trillion; Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley predicted $500 billion; a16z Crypto partner Guy Wuollet declined to provide a specific number, only saying, "My number is up and to the right."
