Golden Ten Data, July 28 — According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Army plans to procure approximately 600 new tactical trucks and has awarded prototype development contracts to Ford, General Motors, and the off-road vehicle manufacturer BC Customs. Delivery and testing are scheduled for next year. Under a contract signed with the U.S. Department of Defense, Ford will develop three tactical truck prototypes based on the F-Series Super Duty heavy-duty pickup. In addition, General Motors has spent several years developing a heavy infantry squad vehicle called ISV-Heavy, which is based on the Chevrolet Silverado heavy-duty pickup. The U.S. military has recently purchased several prototypes and is preparing to conduct field tests.
