On July 30, the World Gold Council's 'Global Gold Demand Trends Report' for the second quarter of 2026 showed that central banks and other official institutions worldwide added a net 289 tons of gold reserves in Q2, a year-on-year increase of 62%, with gold purchase activities in multiple countries picking up. However, dragged down by weak Q1 performance, global central bank gold demand in the first half of the year was slightly below recent highs. The World Gold Council's '2026 Central Bank Gold Reserves Survey' indicated that 45% of surveyed central banks expect to increase their gold reserves over the next year, highlighting the long-term stable importance of gold in official reserves.
