Eurozone growth unexpectedly rebounds in Q2; ABN AMRO indicates it's still difficult for the European Central Bank to raise interest rates significantly

  1. ABN AMRO analyst Alexander Krueger pointed out in a report that despite the unexpected positive boost from economic growth in the second quarter, the European Central Bank is still unlikely to raise rates from the current 2.25% to above 2.50%.
  2. Krueger stated that quarterly economic growth was around 0.4%, mainly offsetting losses from the first quarter caused by Ireland's drag, and now the country is becoming an important factor driving growth.
  3. The analyst believes that given the additional pressure from the Iran war, the growth performance in the second quarter is already positive; however, the ongoing Middle East conflict will delay the process of the economy returning to normal.
  4. He further pointed out that the European Central Bank must closely monitor the evolution of economic fundamentals and inflation trends. The policy path remains highly uncertain, and the threshold for significantly tightening monetary policy in the short term is still quite high.
