The Bank of England has kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.75%, in line with broad market expectations. Despite renewed escalation of conflict in the Middle East, which could drive up energy prices and increase inflationary pressures, the Bank of England has opted to hold steady. Over the past few months, UK inflation has consistently come in below market expectations, and economic activity remains relatively resilient. However, officials at the Bank of England are increasingly concerned that persistent disruptions to energy supply could drag on economic growth and push the domestic economy towards broader price increases. The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee, composed of nine members, made this decision after the US Federal Reserve announced its rate decision. Previously, the Federal Reserve also kept rates unchanged, but of its 12 voting members, three advocated for an immediate rate hike. Earlier this month, the European Central Bank also held rates steady, while hinting at a possible rate increase in September.
