Aerodrome Slipstream leads euro stablecoin trading with nearly $10B in monthly volume
Aerodrome Slipstream, the concentrated liquidity module of the largest decentralized exchange on Base, processed $9.996 billion in euro stablecoin spot trading volume over the past 30 days. That puts it ahead of both Uniswap V3 and Orca Whirlpools, two platforms that most people would have guessed were running the table on stablecoin FX.
The numbers behind Aerodrome’s euro stablecoin dominance
Aerodrome’s total value locked sits at roughly $128 million. The platform generated $3.83 million in fees over the same 30-day window, translating to $2.9 million in revenue directed to veAERO token holders.
The platform now handles between 50% and 60% of all DEX volume on Base. Its cumulative trading volume since launch has surpassed $394 billion.
The key euro stablecoins fueling this volume are EURC, issued by Circle, and EURe from Monerium. Both have gained traction as MiCA-compliant assets, which matters for European traders and institutions that need regulatory clarity before touching an on-chain product.
Why Slipstream works for stablecoins
Aerodrome launched on Base in August 2023 as the chain’s primary liquidity layer. The Slipstream module came later in 2024, introducing concentrated liquidity specifically optimized for low-volatility, high-volume pairs.
The underlying architecture uses a ve(3,3) model, a governance design pioneered by Andre Cronje’s Solidly experiment on Fantom. Users who lock AERO tokens as veAERO get to vote on which liquidity pools receive emission rewards. In return, those voters capture the trading fees generated by the pools they support.
The euro stablecoin market is heating up
The broader euro stablecoin market has expanded as the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation framework has gone into effect. MiCA created a licensing pathway for stablecoin issuers operating in Europe, and both Circle and Monerium moved early to comply.
Uniswap V3, despite being the most widely deployed AMM in DeFi history, hasn’t matched Aerodrome’s euro stablecoin throughput. Uniswap V3 is deployed across multiple chains, diluting liquidity across venues. Aerodrome’s single-chain focus on Base means all of its euro stablecoin liquidity is concentrated in one place.
What this means for the competitive landscape
Aerodrome handling 50–60% of all DEX volume on Base means the chain’s trading ecosystem is heavily dependent on a single protocol. For now, the ve(3,3) flywheel is generating nearly $3 million in monthly revenue for governance participants, cumulative volume has crossed $394 billion, and Aerodrome launched its Slipstream concentrated liquidity module in 2024 specifically to serve the stablecoin trading pairs now driving that volume.
