Elon Musk names Bitcoin as his largest holding outside Tesla and SpaceX
Elon Musk has declared that Bitcoin is his biggest personal holding outside of his stakes in Tesla and SpaceX.
What Musk actually said, and what we already knew
During The B Word Conference on July 21, 2021, Musk disclosed that he personally owns Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dogecoin, with Bitcoin constituting the largest share of that trio.
He also confirmed at that event that both Tesla and SpaceX hold Bitcoin on their balance sheets. At the time, Musk described himself as “not a diversified investor,” with Tesla representing his primary publicly traded holding and SpaceX as his other major asset.
The specific size of his personal Bitcoin position remains unknown. No verifiable updates on Musk’s individual crypto holdings have surfaced in 2025 or 2026 beyond his prior statements.
The corporate Bitcoin picture
Tesla currently holds 11,509 BTC on its balance sheet. The company famously purchased $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin back in early 2021, sold a chunk later that year, and has largely held steady since.
SpaceX, meanwhile, disclosed 18,712 BTC, valued at approximately $1.2 billion, in its June 2026 IPO filings. That position ranks SpaceX as the eighth-largest public corporate Bitcoin holder globally.
Combined, the two Musk-led companies sit on roughly 30,221 BTC.
Why this matters beyond the Musk factor
Analysts have noted that the ongoing narrative around Musk and Bitcoin revolves more around sentiment influence than actual new capital flows. There’s no indication that Musk has recently increased his personal position or that Tesla or SpaceX plan additional Bitcoin purchases in the near term.
What to watch from here
Tesla’s 11,509 BTC has been relatively static, and the company reports its digital asset holdings quarterly.
SpaceX’s 18,712 BTC is now subject to public disclosure requirements following its IPO filing. That means investors will get regular visibility into whether the rocket company is holding, buying, or trimming its position.
