Lithium price recovery boosts Australian lithium mining giant PLS Group to turn losses into profits in fiscal year 2026! Betting on future supply shortages, production capacity expansion is imminent
Australia's largest lithium producer, PLS Group, announced its latest results and stated that there may be a supply shortage of battery metal lithium in the coming years. The company also mentioned that it is nearing a final investment decision on expanding its production capacity.
According to Zhihu Finance APP, Australia's largest lithium producer, PLS Group, announced alongside its latest results that there could be a shortage in the supply of battery metal lithium in the coming years, and stated that the company is nearing a final investment decision on capacity expansion.

Thanks to the recovery in the price of lithium, this key battery metal, after a prolonged period of oversupply, PLS Group achieved a net profit of AUD 526 million (approximately USD 377 million) in the 12 months ending June 30 (i.e., fiscal year 2026), reversing the loss of the previous year. However, these results were still below the average analyst expectations.

After a prolonged supply glut, spodumene prices rebound
This miner, which produces spodumene, supplies a type of hard-rock lithium ore. PLS Group CEO Dale Henderson said in an interview that the company will publish a study report on the expansion plan at the Western Australia Pilgangoora project, known as "P2000," in the quarter ending December. He stated that the company plans to make a final investment decision soon thereafter. "P2000 is the next stage of expansion for the company’s Australian assets. It has the potential to double capacity to 2 million tonnes per year," he said.
Meanwhile, as lithium prices have recovered this year after several years of stagnation, Dale Henderson remains optimistic about the lithium price outlook. He stated: "I think it's fair to say that we have entered the next phase of the cycle." "For now, given the strong demand and persistently sluggish supply, I believe we are about to enter a very exciting period."
In addition, Dale Henderson remarked that the company has not ruled out the potential for growth through mergers and acquisitions, but the current priority is organic expansion.
