BuildABear Workshop Shares Fall After Q2 Results, Guidance Cut

03:15 PM EDT, 08/27/2026 (MT Newswires) -- BuildABear Workshop (BBW) shares were down over 27% in Thursday trading following its fiscal Q2 results and guidance. Earlier, the company reported a revenue of $115.3 million in Q2, compared with $124.2 million a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $120.8 million. The firm posted an EPS of $0.70 for the quarter, down from $0.94 a year ago. For fiscal 2026, the company lowered its revenue guidance to $500 million to $525 million from $530 million to $550 million previously. Analysts expected $533.8 million. The U.S. goods trade deficit in July expanded beyond expectations, reaching a new high since March 2025.

The U.S. goods trade deficit sharply increased by 17.2% in July to $118.8 billion. The widening deficit was mainly driven by imports, with goods imports up 3.7% in July. The capital goods category—which includes computers, accessories, and semiconductors—recorded its largest monthly increase since 1993. Analysts point out that the unexpected expansion of the trade deficit will weigh on Q3 GDP growth; however, this reflects strong market demand for AI products rather than weakness in the U.S. economy.
