Tyson Stock Plunges as Beef Business Weighs on Profit Outlook -- WSJ

Shares of Tyson Foods slumped 7% Thursday after the meatpacker said it expects steeper losses in its beef business for the fiscal year.
With its fiscal year ending this month, the company now says it plans to lose between $625 million and $775 million in its beef business. The company previously expected an adjusted operating loss there of $500 million to $650 million.
A cattle shortage in the U.S. is driving up beef prices and squeezing meatpacker's profits. Tyson last month said it was closing several beef facilities and plans to sell another.
"The beef pressures that have intensified this quarter reflect industry-wide cattle-cycle dynamics that required decisive action," said Tyson CEO Donnie King.
The Arkansas-based company now expects annual adjusted operating income of $1.85 billion to $2.05 billion, compared with its previous forecast of $2.1 billion to $2.3 billion.
