Latest Report Confirms BIS Is Leveraging XRP

A new working paper from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has confirmed that the institution is using the XRP Ledger as the blockchain infrastructure for a data integrity pilot.

Crypto researcher SMQKE shared the report publicly. He highlighted that XRP gained 101 mentions in the document. The paper, titled “Verifiable Official Statistics: A Blockchain-Based Approach,” was published by the BIS Monetary and Economic Department in September 2026.

It describes a proof-of-concept system that cryptographically anchors official statistical datasets to a public blockchain. The BIS chose XRPL specifically, citing its low fees, fast consensus finality, and available developer resources.

Why the BIS Built This on XRPL

The system officially processes SDMx-format datasets through a cryptographic hashing pipeline and records a fingerprint on the XRP Ledger. The BIS describes this as “anchoring,” in which each dataset receives a tamper-evident commitment on-chain. Any user can then verify that published data has not been altered since its original release.

The paper states the system “leverages XRPL for cost-efficient, rapid transaction anchoring.” The reported transaction fee is approximately $0.000003 per anchoring event. Verifying individual datasets takes 1 to 2 seconds under test conditions. Publication latency runs between 3 and 5 seconds.

What This Means for XRP Adoption

The BIS sits at the center of global central banking infrastructure. It serves as the bank for central banks across more than 60 member institutions. XRP has been mentioned in high-profile documents in the past, and this decision to build and publish a working XRPL-based system is another noteworthy sign of XRP’s credibility.

The report identifies multiple future use cases built on this foundation. These include real-time data verification for AI agents, automated compliance tools for regulatory reporting, and integration with tokenized financial instruments such as inflation-linked bonds and derivatives. The paper notes that verified SDMx data could enable programmable digital assets that “automatically adjust their terms based on economic indicators.”

Each of these use cases requires XRPL transactions. Increased institutional deployment would generate consistent on-chain activity and expand XRP’s utility across sovereign financial infrastructure.

Institutional Validation at the Highest Level

SMQKE’s post highlights something the document confirms directly. This is not a theoretical proposal. The BIS built it, tested it, measured its performance, and published the results alongside open-source code.
