Nvidia (NVDA) has increased its equity investments more than ten-fold in the past year to $99 billion, as of July 26, CNBC reported Friday. The company's equity investments last year totaled $7 billion and about $2.2 billion two years earlier, the report said. However, the total still lags investments by Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) and Amazon (AMZN), the report said. Among the investments are the country's $12.9 billion acquisition of Hugging Face and stakes in Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI, Coreweave (CRWV), startups Lumentum, Coherent and Marvell, the report said. In response to an inquiry, Nvidia referred MT Newswires' to a comment by Chief Financial Officer Colette Kress on a recent earnings call. "The frontier AI labs have extraordinary demand for training and inference compute, but they are growing faster than what their balance sheets and credit profiles can support," she said.
