Toyota’s sales have declined for the seventh consecutive month.

According to information from Zhihong Finance APP, Toyota Motor (TM.US) saw its car sales decline again last month due to sluggish sales in China. In China, traditional car brands are facing increasingly fierce competition from the rapid rise of local electric vehicle manufacturers. This marks the seventh consecutive month of declining sales for Toyota.

On Tuesday, Toyota stated that in August, Toyota and Lexus sales in China, the world's largest auto market, plummeted by 23%, mainly due to weak demand for gasoline and hybrid vehicles. This dragged down the company's global group deliveries by 7.5% year-on-year.

Toyota and its peers have been grappling with sluggish sales in China. In addition, automakers are also facing issues such as uneven demand for electric vehicles and surging oil prices triggered by conflicts in the Middle East.

Driven by strong demand for new models (especially hybrids), Toyota and Lexus sales grew 2.6% in Europe and 9.1% in Japan. In the United States, sales fell by 4.4%; in the Middle East, sales dropped by more than a third.

Earlier this year, Toyota stated that its hybrid vehicle sales are expected to exceed 5 million units for the first time in 2026. Alternative powertrains have provided strong support for the Japanese automaker in the U.S. market, while high U.S. tariffs have made it difficult for some brands to enter this market.
