Market Chatter: Southwest Airlines Leans Toward Boeing 787 for Potential Long-Haul Service
MT newswire2026/10/09 14:0110:01 AM EDT, 10/09/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Southwest Airlines (LUV) is leaning toward Boeing's (BA) 787 Dreamliner as its first widebody aircraft for potential long-haul international service, Reuters reported Friday, citing people familiar with the plan. No final decision has been made, the report said. One of the people told Reuters the airline has considered a fleet of dozens of 787s. Southwest, which currently operates an all-Boeing 737 fleet, has also examined obtaining aircraft through lessors or the secondary market, which could allow it to begin long-haul service sooner, the report said. The companies didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
