BlackBerry Says QNX Royalty Backlog Grows Past $1.2 Billion

MT newswireMT newswire2026/10/20 12:16
08:16 AM EDT, 10/20/2026 (MT Newswires) -- BlackBerry (BB) said Tuesday the royalty backlog at its QNX division rose more than $250 million in two quarters to above $1.2 billion, compared with about $950 million at the end of fiscal 2026. The increase was driven by adoption of the QNX Software Development Platform 8.0 and the first design win for Alloy Kore, the division's automotive operating system, the company said. The Alloy Kore award is worth more than $100 million in estimated future royalties, and design wins in robotics, industrial automation and medical devices also contributed to the 26% increase, BlackBerry said.

AI trading weakens, funds return to safe-haven assets, and U.S. Treasury yields hit their lowest level in nearly a month

The outlook for AI trading is being reassessed, reshaping global asset allocation. The yen appreciated 0.3% against the US dollar to 157.68, and the Swiss franc rose 0.2%. Safe-haven buying emerged as oil prices surged due to an attack in Saudi Arabia. The future direction will depend on which theme dominates: inflationary pressures or a cooling in AI trading.
