I. Hot News Highlights
1. UK Inflation | September CPI Accelerates to 3.5%
UK CPI rose 3.5% year over year in September, up from 3.1% in August. Core CPI increased 2.8%, versus 2.6% previously. Motor fuels helped drive the acceleration, while services inflation increased from 3.4% to 3.7%.
Market impact: Strength in both energy and services adds to inflation persistence. Wages, consumption and energy costs will help assess the Bank of England’s policy path and the response in sterling and gilts.
2. Energy | US Inventories Fall as Regional Tensions Lift Morning Oil Prices
US commercial crude inventories fell 3.06 million barrels last week, while distillate stocks rose 1.68 million barrels. Brent settled at $108.82 on October 21 and December WTI at $97.15. Morning quotes recovered to $110.10 and $98.10 respectively, as the US ordered some diplomats and family members to leave Saudi Arabia.
Market impact: Inventory draws and regional security risks influence crude pricing, although crude and refined-product inventories are not tightening together. Actual loadings, shipping conditions and refinery supply will help determine whether the risk premium persists.
3. Stablecoin Policy | OCC Publishes Final GENIUS Act Rule
The OCC issued its final rule on October 21, covering payment stablecoin issuers, foreign issuers and certain custody activities under its jurisdiction. It takes effect January 18, 2027. Bank Secrecy Act, anti-money-laundering and sanctions provisions will be addressed separately.
Market impact: Clearer reserve, redemption and risk-management requirements help banks and nonbanks plan their businesses. Publication and operational approval remain separate stages; application arrangements and implementation details are the next checkpoints.

Oil recovered after the previous session’s retreat, while high yields continued to constrain precious metals. Supply risks and financing costs both matter; temporary haven trading should be distinguished from supply changes that can sustain inflation.
Cryptocurrency Performance
BTC: 84,341.97 USDT, up 1.70% over 24 hours. ETH: 2,478.13 USDT, up 1.15%. Total crypto market capitalization was approximately $2.83 trillion, down 1.42%, with its separate update at 09:19 BJT.
Liquidation distances and cost gaps use contemporaneous USD reference prices of $84,294.40 for BTC and $2,476.73 for ETH.
BTC liquidation zones: A relatively prominent potential short-liquidation cluster lies around $85,000–85,600, approximately 0.84%–1.55% above the reference price. A potential long-liquidation cluster lies around $83,600–83,950, approximately 0.41%–0.82% below. The lower zone is closer; a pullback warrants attention to potential long deleveraging.
ETH liquidation zones: A relatively prominent potential short-liquidation cluster lies around $2,490–2,530, approximately 0.54%–2.15% above the reference price. A potential long-liquidation cluster lies around $2,420–2,450, approximately 1.08%–2.29% below. The upper zone is closer, making short-covering pressure relevant if the rebound extends.
BTC institutional costs: Glassnode’s October 21 report estimates an average BTC cost of approximately $80,200 for the treasury companies it covers, using holdings data through October 19. BTC is approximately 5.11% above that reference. Strategy held 848,517 BTC as of October 18 at an average total cost of $75,446, including fees; BTC is approximately 11.73% above that cost. These are BTC price-to-cost comparisons, not overall corporate investment returns.
Market watch: For BTC, monitor downside exposure around $83,600–83,950 and upside liquidation pressure around $85,000–85,600. ETH is closer to the $2,490 area. Institutional costs sit farther below; treat them separately from current liquidation zones, without assuming guaranteed support or breakout targets.

Five rose and two fell. Tesla and Nvidia led gains, while Alphabet and Amazon declined. These are regular-session closes before Meta and Tesla released earnings; subsequent trading will provide a clearer assessment of those reports.
Sector Moves
AI infrastructure: Supermicro gained 9.55%, Nvidia 2.54%, AMD 3.36% and Broadcom 1.03%. Supermicro’s higher preliminary revenue and margin estimates provide fresh evidence of server demand. Order conversion, customer mix and cash collection remain key checks.
Crypto-linked equities: Coinbase rose 3.65% and Strategy 7.54%. Stablecoin regulatory progress and recovering crypto prices provide context, while platform revenue and treasury-company valuations have different drivers. Trading activity and financing conditions should be assessed separately.
III. In-Depth US Equity Analysis
1. Meta | Advertising Growth Meets Heavy Capital Spending
Event overview: Meta closed at $697.52, up 0.47%. After the close, it reported third-quarter revenue of $64.60 billion, up 26%; ad impressions grew 10% and average ad prices rose 14%.
Market interpretation: Strong advertising supported the core business, but $34.91 billion of capital spending left free cash flow at negative $2.12 billion. Full-year capex guidance narrowed to $135–145 billion, keeping AI investment a substantial cash commitment.
Investment implications: Watch delivery against fourth-quarter revenue guidance of $73–76 billion and the durability of AI-driven advertising improvements. A roughly $9.9 billion litigation charge also affected profit, requiring separation of exceptional charges from recurring costs.
2. Tesla | Positive Free Cash Flow Alongside a 56% Operating-Profit Decline
Event overview: Tesla closed at $386.47, up 3.41%. Its subsequent third-quarter report showed revenue of $28.046 billion, broadly flat year over year, adjusted EPS of $0.48 and free cash flow of $1.531 billion.
Market interpretation: Automotive gross margin excluding regulatory credits improved sequentially to 18.1%, but operating income fell 56% to $718 million, with a 2.6% operating margin. Operational improvement coexists with greater AI and robotics spending; positive cash flow does not eliminate earnings pressure.
Investment implications: Watch the durability of automotive margins, deliveries and operating cash flow, alongside the conversion of new-business investment into revenue. The regular-session gain preceded the results and cannot represent the final market verdict.
3. Supermicro | Preliminary Revenue and Margin Estimates Rise Together
Event overview: Supermicro closed at $35.57, up 9.55%. In an October 20 after-hours update, it estimated fiscal Q1 2027 revenue of $18.5–19.5 billion, versus prior guidance of $14.5–15.5 billion. Gross margin is estimated at 12.0%–12.5%, up from 10.4%–10.8%.
Market interpretation: Improving revenue and margins together ease concerns about the quality of AI server growth. Management cited stronger AI platform demand and customer and product mix, but the figures remain preliminary and unaudited.
Investment implications: The November 3 earnings release will test growth quality more fully. Customer concentration, deliveries, receivables and cash flow will show whether demand translates consistently into profit.
IV. Market & Project Updates
1. Solana Activates Alpenglow
Anza announced on October 21 that Alpenglow is live on Solana mainnet-beta, reducing transaction finality from about 12.8 seconds to roughly 150 milliseconds. Faster settlement can improve payments and trading; network stability and application adoption remain key checks.
2. Grayscale Extends In-Kind Subscriptions to 10 Products
Eligible investors can contribute the relevant digital assets directly for shares in selected ETFs or trusts covering assets including BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP. The mechanism simplifies transfers into investment products, but in-kind subscriptions do not themselves demonstrate fresh cash inflows.
3. Standard Chartered Signs Definitive Zodia Custody Acquisition Agreements
Standard Chartered plans to acquire all of Zodia Custody, subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions. Custody operations will join Securities Services after completion, while the software business is set to become Zodia Solutions. Financial terms were not disclosed.
4. Aerodrome and Velodrome Merge Into Aero
The combined onchain spot exchange spans seven networks, including Ethereum, Base and Robinhood Chain. Existing AERO and VELO tokens will migrate to a new AERO token. Migration arrangements, liquidity distribution and governance changes will be important to the integration.
V. Today’s Market Calendar
| October 22, 20:30 | US | Initial and continuing jobless claims | High |
| October 22, 20:30 | US | P&G fiscal Q1 2027 earnings call | High |
| October 22, 22:00 | US | September Conference Board Leading Economic Index | Medium |
| October 22, 23:00 | US | Kansas City Fed manufacturing survey | Medium |
Event preview: Claims will test labor-market resilience, while leading indicators and the regional manufacturing survey add growth context. P&G’s volumes, pricing and costs will help assess consumer demand under energy and financing pressures.
Institutional view: Glassnode’s October 21 report highlights overlapping supply pressures around $85,000–87,500 for BTC. Repeated ETF inflows accompanied by stronger volume would provide better evidence of broader demand. This medium-term framework should be distinguished from the morning’s short-term liquidation zones.
