Apple Reportedly Working on AI-Powered Wearable Pin

According to a recent report from The Information, Apple is rumored to be creating a new artificial intelligence wearable. This innovative device is said to be a pin that attaches to clothing and features two cameras along with three microphones.

If this device becomes available, it would signal growing competition in the AI hardware sector. The news comes shortly after OpenAI’s Chief Global Affairs Officer, Chris Lehane, revealed at Davos that his company is preparing to unveil its first AI hardware product later this year. Additional sources indicate that OpenAI’s device might take the form of wireless earbuds.

Design and Features

The Apple wearable is described as a slim, round disc crafted from aluminum and glass. Engineers are aiming for a size comparable to an AirTag, though slightly thicker. The pin is expected to include two cameras—one standard and one wide-angle—for capturing photos and videos. Other features reportedly include a physical button, a built-in speaker, and a charging strip similar to those found on FitBit devices.

Potential Launch and Market Competition

Apple is reportedly working to speed up the development of this product in order to compete with OpenAI’s upcoming hardware. The pin could debut as early as 2027, with an initial production run of 20 million units. TechCrunch has reached out to Apple for further details.

Consumer Interest Remains Uncertain

It is still unclear whether consumers will embrace this type of AI wearable. In the past, two former Apple employees launched Humane AI, a startup that also introduced an AI pin equipped with microphones and a camera. However, the product struggled in the market, leading the company to cease operations and sell its assets to HP within two years of launch.
