A document recovered from the cell phone of lobbyist Mauricio Novelli describe An alleged $5 million financial deal related to the promotion of the memecoin LIBRA by Argentine President Javier Milei has surfaced. The file was identified during an examination conducted by Argentine authorities on devices seized during investigations.
According to the information revealed, the document was created on February 11, 2025, just three days before Milei posted a message on social media promoting the cryptocurrency LIBRA, a token launched on the Solana network.
The text, written in English, begins with the phrase "Hello friends, this is the final agreement discussed with H" and presents a payment structure divided into three stages. The first installment mentioned would be US$1,5 million, paid upfront in cash or liquid tokens.
A second part of the payment, also of US$1,5 million, would be linked to a public announcement by Milei indicating Hayden Davis as a consultant for a project related to the memecoin LIBRA.
The document further states that the final US$2 million would depend on the signing of a formal contract involving blockchain and artificial intelligence consulting, with review by Milei himself and his sister Karina Milei.
Although the document does not directly indicate the recipients of the payments, the investigation suggests that the amount could involve intermediaries linked to the LIBRA project, including Novelli and other operators associated with the initiative.
In addition to the file's contents, forensic call records revealed an intense sequence of phone contacts in the hours leading up to the launch of the memecoin LIBRA.
According to the records, Milei posted about the token at 19:01 PM on February 14, 2025. In the minutes immediately before and after the post, he and Novelli exchanged several calls between 18:54 PM and 19:03 PM.
Shortly after, Novelli also tried to contact Karina Milei, who returned the call at 19:17 pm for a conversation that lasted more than two minutes.
As the price of the memecoin LIBRA began to fall rapidly that night, the number of contacts increased. Between approximately 22 p.m. and midnight, Novelli spoke with other figures connected to the project and close members of the Argentine government.
Another document recovered from the lobbyist's cell phone, dated February 16, 2025, appears to contain a draft of a public statement attributed to the Argentine president. The text reportedly sought to mitigate the impacts of the crisis involving memecoin.
The document includes the phrase "this is the only thing that saves him, me, and us," suggesting that the message may have been prepared beforehand to deal with the consequences of the incident.
The memecoin LIBRA reached a market capitalization of over US$4 billion after Milei's social media post. Hours later, the token registered a drop of over 90%, while wallets associated with the project withdrew approximately US$107 million during the digital asset's collapse.
