Update: S&P 500, Nasdaq Hit Record Highs as Focus Shifts to Fed Minutes

04:48 PM EDT, 10/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with market moves at the end of the day, and other changes, if any.) The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite hit record highs on Tuesday as Treasury yields declined ahead of the Federal Reserve's meeting minutes due Wednesday. The S&P 500 added 0.6% to settle at 7,818.93, while the Nasdaq gained 0.5% to 27,599.79 to notch a back-to-back new peak. Both are up for the fourth and fifth day in a row, respectively. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.5% to 51,521.28, extending its rally into the fourth session. Barring healthcare, all sectors ended in the green, led by utilities. The 10-year Treasury yield was last down 3.2 basis points at 5.28%, while the two-year rate fell 3.8 basis points to 4.80%. The Fed will publish the minutes from its September meeting on Wednesday, offering insights into the monetary policy trajectory. Policymakers announced a 25-basis-point rate increase at the meeting, marking the first rate hike in just over three years aimed at bringing elevated inflation back to the 2% target. Markets are currently pricing in an 81% probability that the Fed will keep its benchmark rate steady later this month, according to the CME FedWatch tool. In economic news, the US trade deficit increased in August to its highest level since March 2025 as imports hit a record high, official data showed Tuesday. The trade deficit widened in part due to an artificial intelligence-induced surge in capital goods imports, Grace Zwemmer, US economist at Oxford Economics, said in a note. "Although net trade is on track to pose a sizeable drag on (third-quarter gross domestic product), roughly half of the drag will be offset by a 1.4 (percentage point) contribution to GDP growth from booming equipment spending," Zwemmer said. Brent crude oil was up 0.7% at $100.99 a barrel in Tuesday late-afternoon trade, while West Texas Intermediate rose 0.4% to $89.81. Attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz have intensified this month even as oil shipments through the critical ener

McKesson, CD&R to Buy Option Care Health in $5.8 Billion Deal

01:30 PM EDT, 10/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Drug distributor McKesson (MCK) and private investment firm Clayton Dubilier & Rice agreed to acquire Option Care Health (OPCH) in a roughly $5.8 billion deal, sending the home infusion services provider's shares soaring Tuesday. Option Care shareholders will receive $32.05 per share, a premium of about 37% to the stock's Monday closing price, the companies said Tuesday. Clayton Dubilier & Rice, or CD&R, will own a roughly 51% majority stake in Option Care, while McKesson will invest about $1.4 billion for the remaining 49%. The agreement also establishes a framework for McKesson to acquire CD&R's interest in Option Care in the future, they said in a statement. Option Care shares were up 33% in afternoon trade, paring this year's loss to 2.4%. McKesson shares were up 0.3%, bringing its year-to-date gains to roughly 12%. Option Care describes itself as the nation's largest independent provider of home and alternate-site infusion services, serving patients across all 50 states. McKesson Chief Executive Brian Tyler said the investment fits its strategy of expanding access to therapies in lower-cost community settings. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to Option Care stockholder approval and other conditions. Option Care will remain a separate company led by its own management team, while its shares will be delisted from the Nasdaq Stock Exchange. The company withdrew its financial guidance and will not host a call with its third-quarter results scheduled for Nov. 4. Separately, Deutsche Bank said the deal would mark "another meaningful step" in McKesson's strategy to expand further downstream in specialty care. "We suspect (McKesson) likely involved CD&R to limit its upfront capital commitment while still gaining strategic exposure to the asset, with a potential path to full ownership over time," the brokerage said in a Tuesday note to clients prior to the deal's announcement. In August, McKesson agreed to acquire Precision Medicine in a trans

11:45 AM EDT, 10/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- All three major US stock indexes were up in late-morning trading Tuesday, as oil prices and Treasury yields were down. In company news, Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google has entered into a 20-year deal with Constellation Energy (CEG) to add 890 megawatts of nuclear power to the PJM interconnection grid, the companies said Tuesday. The agreement will enable over $4.3 billion in investments in new equipment and technology at 11 Constellation nuclear facilities in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the companies said. Alphabet's Class C and Class A shares were up 0.3% and 0.6%, respectively, around midday. Constellation shares were up 13.7%. Marvell Technology (MRVL) now expects to generate revenue of $12 billion in 2026 and $18 billion in 2027, up from its previous guidance of a combined $20 billion over that period, Chairman and Chief Executive Matthew Murphy said Tuesday at a conference, according to a transcript. Marvell shares were up 7.0%. McKesson (MCK) and CD&R have entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Option Care Health (OPCH) for $32.05 per share, reflecting a total enterprise value of about $5.8 billion, the companies said Tuesday. The deal, expected to close in the coming months, will expand Uber's catering orders and give restaurants access to larger orders and more customers, the company said. Uber shares were down 0.4%. Energy Transfer (ET) said Tuesday it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Vaquero Midstream in a bolt-on deal valued at about $2.63 billion. Updated Version 4 - McKesson and CD&R to privatize infusion therapy provider Option Care in a $5.8 billion deal

McKesson will spend approximately $1.4 billions to acquire a 49% stake in Option Care. The transaction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027. Option Care is the largest independent infusion therapy service provider in the United States. McKesson (MCK.N), a pharmaceutical distributor, and private equity firm Clayton Dubilier & Rice have reached an agreement on Tuesday to take Option Care Health (OPCH.O), an infusion therapy provider, private in a transaction valued at about $5.8 billions including debt. The offer price of $32.05 per share represents a 37.1% premium over the latest closing price of Option Care. The company’s shares rose 32.8%, closing at $31.03. For McKesson, this deal represents the latest move in its effort to broaden its healthcare services portfolio and follows another private equity acquisition of a home healthcare provider, Enhabit. Option Care Health, as the largest independent infusion provider in the US, operates through over 197 locations, serving more than 308,000 patients annually with home and outpatient infusion, specialty pharmacy, and complex condition care. JPMorgan analyst Lisa Gill commented that McKesson’s focus on specialty and community healthcare makes this acquisition very attractive, allowing the company to capitalize on supply chain efficiencies and collaborate with Option Care Health in complex chronic medication management. As the population ages and more patients choose treatment outside of high-cost hospital settings, demand for home healthcare in the US is growing. Under the deal, McKesson will invest about $1.4 billions to acquire a 49% minority stake and will retain an option to acquire the remaining 51% from CD&R at a future date. Option Care Health will continue to operate as an independent company led by its own management. According to Leerink Partners analyst Michael Cherny, in a Monday evening report, this transaction aligns McKesson with the trend of shifting healthcare delivery from hospitals and medical institutions to alternate sites. Given that McKesson currently operates Canada’s leading infusion network, Inviva, this deal will further expand its footprint in the US home infusion services sector. Revenues from McKesson’s oncology and multi-specialty businesses (including infusion services) hit $14.2 billions in the latest quarter, up 33% from the prior year. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027, at which point Option Care Health will become a private company.

Updated version 3 - McKesson and CD&R will privatize infusion therapy provider Option Care in a $5.8 billion deal

Sneha S K, Reuters, October 6 - Pharmaceutical distributor McKesson (MCK.N) and private equity firm Clayton Dubilier & Rice (CD&R) reached an agreement on Tuesday to take infusion therapy provider Option Care Health (OPCH.O) private in a deal valued at approximately $5.8 billion, including debt. The acquisition price of $32.05 per share represents a 37.1% premium over Option Care's most recent closing price. The stock rose 33% in pre-market trading to $31.11. This deal, part of McKesson’s latest efforts to expand in healthcare services, marks another acquisition of a home healthcare provider by a private equity fund following the Enhabit deal. Option Care Health is the largest independent provider of infusion therapy in the US, serving over 308,000 patients annually through more than 197 service locations, offering home and outpatient infusions, specialty pharmacy services, and care for complex conditions. Demand for home healthcare in the US has been growing amid an aging population and as more patients opt for care outside of high-cost settings such as hospitals. After the deal closes, CD&R will hold the majority stake, while McKesson will own a minority stake. Option Care Health will continue to operate as an independent company, led by its own management team. Under the transaction terms, McKesson will invest about $1.4 billion for a 49% stake and retain the right to purchase the remaining 51% from CD&R at a later date. Leerink Partners analyst Michael Cherny noted in a report Monday evening that the deal aligns McKesson with the trend of shifting healthcare services away from hospitals and institutions. In addition, given McKesson’s operation of Canada’s leading infusion and injection network Inviva, the transaction expands its footprint in US home infusion services. McKesson’s oncology and multi-specialty business unit, which includes infusion services, generated revenue of $14.2 billion in the latest quarter, up 33% year-over-year, driven by specialty drug distribution and contributions from acquisitions. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2027, after which Option Care Health will become a private company.

Reuters, October 6 – Pharmaceutical distributor McKesson (MCK.N) and private equity firm Clayton Dubilier & Rice (CD&R) reached an agreement on Tuesday to take infusion therapy provider Option Care Health (OPCH.O) private, in a deal valued at approximately $5.8 billions, including debt. The acquisition offer of $32.05 per share represents a 37.1% premium over Option Care's most recent closing price. As a US pharmaceutical distributor, McKesson is seeking to expand its healthcare services portfolio, and this transaction marks its latest move. It also follows the private equity fund’s previous acquisition of another home health service provider, Enhabit. Option Care Health is the largest independent provider of infusion therapy services in the US, serving over 308,000 patients annually through more than 197 service centers, offering home and outpatient infusions, specialty pharmacy, and care for complex conditions. With an aging population and a growing number of patients choosing care outside costly hospital settings, demand for home healthcare in the US continues to increase. Upon closing, CD&R will hold the majority stake, while McKesson will retain a minority interest. Option Care Health will continue to operate as an independent company led by its existing management team. As per transaction terms, McKesson will invest about $1.4 billions to acquire a 49% stake, with the right to acquire CD&R's remaining 51% interest at a later date. According to Michael Cherny, an analyst at Leerink Partners, this deal positions McKesson in line with the trend of healthcare services shifting away from hospitals and medical institutions to alternative sites of care. Additionally, given McKesson’s current operation of Canada’s leading infusion and injection network, Inviva, the transaction extends its reach in the US home infusion market. McKesson’s oncology and multi-specialty business segments, including infusion services, posted revenues of $14.2 billions in the most recent quarter, up 33% year-over-year, benefiting from specialty drug distribution and contributions from acquisitions. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2027, after which Option Care Health will become a private company.
